After reading Frankenstein, students explored the shifting scientific landscape of the 18th and 19th centuries, the emergence Romanticism and Gothic literature, the relationship between mysticism and early scientific practices, and the ethical dimensions of current genetic research practices. Dr. Chris Vuille, a professor of physics at Embry-Riddle and author of his own work of science fiction, helped instruct students on the history of humankind's attempts to create and manipulate life, as we discover more about the origins of life in the solar system and beyond and the inner workings of our own DNA.
